This mega quality event will bring together Productivity and Quality experts, Quality Circle practitioners and enthusiasts from all over the world.

The IQCC is targeted particularly towards the African and Indian Ocean countries to foster unity within diversities through QCCs and to provide a forum for the exchange of new ideas, knowledge and valuable experiences.

We expect good participation from companies in Asia and the African region. Hence, the IQCC is a great place to establish contacts and to look out for business opportunities. Mauritius itself is a free trade zone with reduced or nil tariff for goods exported to Africa. Free trade agreements with Europe are also practised and there are tax holidays for pioneer status companies.

I hope that you would be interested in attending this convention. Better still, present a paper and/or bring along a team.

FULL DAY LAND EXCURSIONS

All our excursions can be tailor cut to customers' wishes. Departure from hotel at around 08h30 back to hotel: around 17h00.

EXCURSION No 1

PORT LOUIS: Capital city and main port of Mauritius. This town has plenty character and shows in certain quarters signs of its past elegance. The Champ de Mars originally laid out by the French for military parades is now a racecourse. The best high-up view of the racecourse, town and harbour is from Fort Adelaide, a citadel fortified in the time of William IV. To see a fascinating cross-section of Mauritian life, a visit of the lively and colourful covered market and a walk around will be proposed. A Chinese lunch will be served in one of the most famous restaurant. Visit of the Caudan Water Front Commercial & Handicraft Centre, the last masterpiece of the Mauritian Architecture, which centralises a wide range of the nicest shops and duty free jewellers.

DOMAINE LES PAILLES:

A unique site where Mauritius can be observed as it use to be. Discover the traditional way of making sugar from freshly crushed sugar cane and see rum being distilled from sugar syrup. The train, a horse-driven carriage and the colonial architecture blend in to complete the picture. It is also synonymous with the selection of the finest restaurants specialising in Chinese, French, Italian, Indian and Creole cuisine.

EUREKA: this magnificent colonial estate house contains antique furniture of different periods and has more than 100 doors and windows. It is situated in a five-acre estate and includes an Andreanum garden.

PAMPLEMOUSSES GARDENS: known to naturalists throughout the world for their large collection of indigenous and exotic plants, including the giant water lilies and many species of palm tree. Of particular interest is the Talipot palm, which is said to flower once every sixty years and thereafter die.

EXCURSION No 2

CUREPIPE

Is the island's main urban centre, this pleasant town owes its extensive facilities and large residential areas. It is an excellent place for shopping for such items as handmade ship models, duty free jewellery, Indian silks and cotton, Chinese embroideries and handicrafts, woollen jumpers and so much more. Curepipe is surrounded by a green belt of forests and is the source of six main rivers. From the Trou aux Cerfs crater a spectacular view of the West Coast may be seen.

GRAND BASSIN: This natural lake resting in the crater of an extinct volcano is a place of pilgrimage for all Hindus. Temples are surrounding the lake and may be visited.

MARE AUX VACOAS:

It is a water-reserve in the middle of exotic vegetation.

BLACK RIVER GORGES NATIONAL PARK:

This 6,574 hectares park, proclaimed in 1994, protects much of the remaining forests of Mauritius and provides opportunities for the visitor to enjoy spectacular natural scenery and some of the unique endemic plants' and birds' life.

From the road across PLAINE CHAMPAGNE towards Chamarel there is easy access to viewpoints on Alexandra Falls.

CHAMAREL:

A twisting metalled road leads from Case Noyale village to the coloured earth at Chamarel. This is a mound of undulating land stretching in contrasting layers of colour, and the patches of blue, green and yellow earth are believed to be the result of weathering.

EXCURSION No 3

BOIS CHERI TEA FACTORY AND ITS ANTHURIUM PLANTATION:

Even brought from India, the Mauritian tea does not taste like the Indian tea. After the visit of the factory, you will have the opportunity to taste it and to buy it if you wish. Anthuriums and Andreanums are two exotic "Flowers", a visit of their plantation may be organised.

LA VANILLE CROCODILE FARM:

South of the island in the heart of an unspoiled forest is this farm, where Nile crocodiles imported from Madagascar are bred. A small zoo of animals found in the wild of Mauritius adds to the attraction.

SOUILLAC and GRIS-GRIS:

The appeal of Souillac lies in its scenery. In striking contrast to the soft curves of the northern coastline, the high cliffs here drop abruptly to the sea and the bracing winds of the Indian Ocean blow all the year round.

A charming feature is the garden overlooking the sea, named after Dr. Charles Telfair. At the southern end of the village a favourite viewpoint is Gris-Gris on the cliff. Facing it, the sea engulfs itself in dark rocks, which have been hollowed out by the constant crashing of the waves.

SAINT AUBIN "TABLE D'HOTE"

Saint Aubin is a very important sugar estate and it has newly opened to the tourists a beautiful colonial house situated in an English style garden.

EXCURSION No 4

MAHEBOURG:

Is one of the fishing centres. It lies in the bay of Grand Port where in 1810 the English and French naval commanders, both wounded in battle, were brought to be given medical care. This battle has been the only one won by the French. The Naval Museum, located in a French mansion contains various object found in the numerous wreckage surrounding the island.

DOMAINE DU CHASSEUR:

Hidden in the hills at Anse Jonche, near Mahebourg, there is this magnificent park covering 2,000 acres. Forest-clad slopes at an altitude of 300 to 500 meters live stags and deer, monkeys and wild boars among luxurious vegetation of ebony, eucalyptus, palm trees and wild orchids. Rare species of birds such as the kestrel can be seen in the woods.

LE VAL NATURE PARK:

Le Val derives its name from the valley as luxuriant mountains surround it. It offers the following attractions: spring water with natural aquatic life like shrimps, eels and carps; Anthuriums and Andreanum green houses, Prawn ponds, watercress ponds, deer park, monkeys, birds, endemic plants and animals.

LE DOMAINE DEL' YLANG YLANG

It is resting at the foot of Anse Jonche Mountain. Its main resource is the plantation of Ylang Ylang from the fragrant yellow flowers of which a perfume is distilled. The domain commands a panoramic view over the bay and the neighbouring islets.

EXCURSION No 5

PHOENIX GLASS GALLERY:

Discover the craftsmanship of Mauritius at Phoenix Glass Gallery where recycled mouth-blown glass objects and stained glass products can be found. See their glass blowers bring glass to live.

PHOENIX FACTORY SHOP:

Offers a wide range of good quality clothes from the main factories of the island at a lowest price.

CASELA BIRD PARK:

This beautiful garden and bird sanctuary of some 25 acres is situated in the west part of the island. Almost 2500 birds of 140 different species are housed in some 90 aviaries. Casela also houses other animals such as tigers, monkeys, lemurs, deer, giant tortoises, and wallabies; Its natural setting, spacious layout and luxuriant vegetation also help to make it a popular spot.

EUREKA: this magnificent colonial estate house contains antique furniture of different periods and has more than 100 doors and windows. It is situated in a five-acre estate and includes an andreanum garden.

HALF DAY LAND EXCURSIONS

EXCURSION No 6

From Grand Bay beach, you will embark on a boat (6 persons per boat), after 20 minutes ride you will get to the best place to see. There, with special equipment you will freely walk under the sea, discovering the colourful fishes and coral.

Meanwhile the others will do some shopping in the centre of Grand Bay.
